Vision Care for Kids

http://www.kidsvisionforlife.org/

Launched in 2008 by Essilor Vision Foundation, a Dallas-based 501(c)(3) public charity the Kids Vision for Life program establishes strategic, local partnerships in communities throughout the United States to increase access to vision screenings, eye exams and new prescription eyeglasses. This service eliminates the most common barriers—access and expense—to vision care for low-income families by conducting vision screenings, performing eye examinations and dispensing new prescription glasses on-site at local schools and at no cost to the family.

Kids Vision for Life program serves students who live within 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level and have limited access to basic vision care.  We select schools based on demonstrated need, using criteria such as high student poverty levels as indicated by their eligibility for free and reduced-price meal subsidies.

Kids Vision for Life bridges the gap between the need and the solution, assisting an underserved population where it is most convenient, at schools and school related events, with no cost to those served; thereby providing direct services while reducing the most common barriers to vision correction.

The Kids Vision for Life program partners with schools to assess the needs of their students and target schools appropriately.

Since 2008, Kids Vision for Life Greater Dallas (Kids Vision for Life-DTX) has provided vision screenings for 67,916 students, conducted 12,572 eye exams and dispensed 10,534 new prescription eyeglasses to students within Dallas County. Through the use of one of the Kids Vision for Life Mobile Clinics we are able to reach more students each year. Funding for the Greater Dallas program has been strong with support from the Dallas Mavs Foundation, the Dallas Foundation, Stemmons Foundation and the East Dallas Exchange Club.
